Christ some parents suck and blow things out of proportion and don’t see the overall big picture of things.

An excellent point about the value of the “always do your best” ethic: something my mother always drummed into me as a child.

Unfortunately, here in the UK at least, schools are some of the worst offenders at settling for constant mediocrity and failing to recognize the importance of doing anything well. It’s grossly unfair on bright kids who get no motivation out of their education, and it spawns a whole generation who think it’s cool to just mess around at school, and as a result end up achieving nothing as adults.
